Bernard Hallemans becomes CEO of ELG GmbH

01.09.2023

Dr Donald Weir is leaving ELG GmbH and will hand over the office of Chief Executive Officer to Bernard Hallemans on 1 September 2023. Bernard Hallemans is a member of the Aperam Leadership Team as its Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer and has been responsible for ELG’s governance. With this transition to direct steering from Bernard, Aperam takes the next step in realising the value of ELG’s activities as part of its Recycling and Renewable segment.

Hallemans: "I am excited to take on this role and help ELG realise its growth potential as well as expand the strategic role of this core business in Aperam's sustainability roadmap."

Donald Weir has successfully steered the ELG Group through company-changing periods since he joined in January 2021, including the recovery from the effects of the COVID19 pandemic, the sale by Haniel and the integration into Aperam.

Weir: “It has been a privilege to lead the ELG team through an intense phase of change and to see the business return to sustainable higher profitability. I have enjoyed the ever-changing scrap market, working with customers and suppliers as well as the knowledge that our work supports the sustainability transition.”
